“How far that little candle throws its beams! So shines a good deed in a naughty world.”
Imagine for a minute that when you had a child, he or she came with a box of candles. Each candle stood for a value. Values of honesty, justice, kindness, courage, empathy, resilience, hard work, loyalty and all those wonderful things that make life worth living.
When your child really learnt that value, the spark ignited the candle and the rest of the world basked in its warmth and glow. And imagine, if the only way to light your child’s candle, was if you had the same fire burning within you.
It’s a likely proposition, for rarely can a child imbibe values which their parents just don’t have – they will, like the acorn, grow close to what they see as the world around them, their parents being the center of that world.
It’s time for parents like us to reflect inwards, and question whether we have the light within us to light the lives of our children. For, telling your child how to behave is hardly going to have an impact in the face of the actions you demonstrate in your own life daily.
You bear the torch, you light the flame. Time to light up parents and pass on the fire to our little kids – they deserve to shine bright and beautiful! #GiftTheLight
