“Change makes you find your calling, your legacy, and God’s divine plan for your life. Don’t run from it.” Iman
Why do I coach? I coach because I fundamentally believe this – “If the world has better parents, the world will be a better place”.
Children who grow into adults will be incapable of wrong doing, of crime, of hatred, if they are brought up in love. No matter how much you dislike someone, no matter how offended or insulted you are, if you are brought up with good values, it’s almost impossible for you to hold onto hatred or commit a crime.
When I look around me today, the world looks like a dark place. I often wonder about the people committing crimes, inciting hatred, instigating unrest and I wonder whether this could be avoided had their values been stronger. I don’t have the answers but I know in my heart that adults who are unhappy, miserable, always busy, always dissatisfied are surely going to be unhappy, miserable, always busy and always dissatisfied parents. And then their children will grow into the same adults that raised them.
If we can collectively, as a society, as a nation of parents, commit to being better parents, then our children have the hope of growing up better. Children who are guided by the light. Sure there will be other influences on their life; Yes, good parenting alone will not change the world…but good parenting contributes to much more than just our home. As Dr Abdul Kalam put it “Governments cannot create noble citizens, noble citizens have to be created at home and in schools”
So, what does this have to do with coaching? Everything….If through coaching, I can help people return to their authentic selves, discover what’s wonderful about them, find their often buried / lost sense of joy and gratitude, then I perhaps can help them be more at peace with themselves. And when you are at peace with yourself, you are likely to be at peace with the world.
If you are a self-aware, self-satisfied individual, content in your own being, believing in your immense potential and resilient to the trials of life, you are already an agent of change. Just by virtue of being who you are, without necessarily doing anything, you already have the power to spread your positive energy around you. I know this to be true through my own experiences of coaching and the power of having a good coach.
Its amazing and humbling to know that I can use the gifts I have to honor my life purpose and at the same time help others honor theirs. I’m excited to keep growing on this journey to coaching. The possibilities are endless. #GiftTheLight
